I don’t know about you but I really hate taking my makeup off before going to bed. And yes I’ve been guilty of not bothering and ending up with mascara all over the pillowcase … and looking horrendous first thing in the morning. But after finding Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm I won’t be guilty of that ever again.
I’ve used several different makeup removers over the years, ones that have stated they even remove waterproof mascara, but none of them have taken all my makeup off effectively. And a few of them have really stung my eyes and skin.
Then a couple of months ago I watched a YouTube video from Angie of Hot & Flashy (I definitely recommend her channel) and she recommended Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm. So when I received a £20 Debenhams gift voucher for my birthday I decided to treat myself to some.
The Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm comes in a 125ml lilac tub with a silver screw top lid and has the consistency of hardened coconut oil (which means you won’t spill any). It says the Balm is fragrance free but it does have a very slight oily smell although it’s not unpleasant.
Take about a thumbnail size of the Balm and massage it onto dry skin. The Balm becomes soft and pliable once you start massaging. Rub it over your eyelids, eyelashes and the rest of your face for a minute or so then rinse off thoroughly with warm water.
My makeup came off really well, even my eyeshadow and mascara. There was a little makeup on the towel when I dried my face but not too much. Best of all Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm made my skin feel soft and smooth and didn’t sting my eyes.
The day I tested this I was wearing primer, foundation, blusher, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara and lipstick. I applied my makeup at 9am and removed it at 9pm.
Pros
- Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm is not the cheapest cleansing balm at £24 a tub but as I only use a small amount each time it will last me quite a while. ( I don’t wear full make up every day)
- Doesn’t sting my eyes
- Takes my makeup off really well, including my mascara
Cons
- Clinique is owned by Estee Lauder whose official animal testing policy is not to test on animals except when required by law. Clinique is sold in mainland China where animal testing is required by law.
I really do like this product but as I’m trying to move to cruelty free beauty products I’m not sure I’ll buy it again unless Estee Lauder stops selling to mainland China!
