Selling Dresses on Ebay : What Profit Did I Make?

It’s been a strange couple of weeks for eBay sales.  I’d say 90% of our sales have been clothing but that’s probably because 90% of our stock is clothing at the moment so I’ve been selling dresses on Ebay this week.  While it’s been quite a slow time for sales in general, my 7 eBay Sales This Week include some higher priced items – one of them probably in our top five sales of all time!  I hope you find these posts helpful and interesting – remember, if you have any questions at all about selling on eBay just post them in the comment section below.

Item:  Cath Kidston Disney Print Dress

Paid:  £4.45 (charity shop)

I spotted this on a charity shop rail and was surprised when it had a sale tag on it – reduced from £8.90 to £4.45.  I’ve never picked up Cath Kidston items before but knew they were quite sought after.  I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how much these dresses were going for … between £30 and £50 (the higher end was for new).  It sold within 24 hours of listing.  I have to say that it was a very pretty dress and a size 14 (which is a good dress size that sells well).  I’ll be on the look out for these on my travels in future.

Item:  Brass Fox

Paid:  £5 (car boot sale)

I’d already sold one of these foxes on eBay so when I saw this one at a car boot sale I thought I’d try my luck again.  It was listed for a couple of months but still sold for the same price as the previous one.  They’re quite heavy  but I can see the appeal – he’s quite cute.

Item:  Murder Ahoy!  Murder Mystery Party Game

Paid:  £2.99 (charity shop)

I’ve sold a few of these Murder Mystery games so usually pick them up if they’re cheap enough – there’s lots of different versions of them, so something for everyone.  They don’t make a huge profit and aren’t especially quick sellers but they’re good ‘bread and butter’ items as eBay resellers say.  I actually held a murder mystery party myself a couple of years ago at Halloween and it went down a treat – they’re really good fun and don’t take an awful lot of planning – I may even do another one this year.

What sells on eBay

Item:  Joseph Ribkoff Summer Dress

Paid:  £3.99 (charity shop)

I picked this up on the same day as the Cath Kidston dress above.  I have sold a Joseph Ribkoff before so knew they went for a good price and this one I thought was a lovely print and a nice soft material that draped well on the mannequin.  I took an offer on this within about 48 hours of listing it … I’m looking for quick turnover at the moment so I can plough it back into more stock for both eBay and Amazon.  The buyer originally offered £20 and I counter-offered with £25.  When she came back with £23.05 I decided to accept.

Item:  Papaya Black Sequin Party Dress

Paid:  £2 (charity shop)

Although Papaya is a lower-priced brand (Matalan) I always pick them up, and also supermarket brands, if I really like the item so I thought I’d mention it in my post.  I liked this one as it was a larger size (18) and thought it might go for the xmas party season but it hung on till January.  It wasn’t a great material to photograph – the dress is covered in black sequins which made it quite shiny but obviously someone thought it looked good 🙂

Item:  Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Ankh-Morpork Board Game

Paid:  £2.50 (charity shop)

Hubby almost knocked me over just as we got through the door of this charity shop -he’d spotted the game straight away and couldn’t believe his luck as he knew it was worth quite a bit.  There was one of the cardboard coins missing but he wasn’t too worried about it.  The ‘kerching’ that came in after only three days of listing was very nice indeed.  Apparently hubby has a list of games in his head that he’d like to find … that’s one of them ticked off.

Item:  Zara Trafaluc Military Shirt Dress

Paid:  £3.99 (charity shop)

It was definitely a week for selling dresses on Ebay.  Another of the dresses that I bought on the same day as the Cath Kidston and the Joseph Ribkoff … that was a good day of charity shop shopping!  I’ve sold a couple of things from the Trafaluc range and they always seem to go for a good price.  This dress doesn’t look great on the mannequin but I assume the people that buy this type of thing know how to wear it properly.  I took an offer on this one as I’d listed it at the very top end of what I thought it might go for so I was happy it sold so quickly (within a couple of days of listing).

What sells on eBay

When there’s not much to pick up in charity shops I always look at the clothing rails … there’s usually at least one item I think I can make a profit on.  And listing regularly on eBay seems to make a difference to eBay sales so it’s good to keep things ticking along.
