As a plus size woman I’ve always felt self-conscious wearing anything other than black trousers or dark blue jeans. We’re always being told “black is slimming”. But recently I’ve been watching a lot of plus size younger women on YouTube and Instagram who are choosing to ignore that advice and instead wearing what they want. So I decided to take a leaf out of their book and bought myself a lovely pair of pale grey and white pinstripe straight leg trousers from Primark in Size 20. After looking through my wardrobe I came up with 4 ways to style plus size trousers and was really happy with how they looked so thought I’d share!
For reference I’m 5ft 4 inches tall and take a Size 18/20. I’ve lost weight recently (1 stone), so the trousers are a little looser than they were when I bought them. They have a zip with a button and hook & eye fastening. If you want to see them in more detail I’ve included my YouTube video of this post below.
The very casual look
I love this grey casual jumper type top (Size 20) I bought from Tu at Sainsburys last year. So I tried it with the plus size trousers and really like the look. I teamed them with a pair of white trainers I bought from Primark and also rolled up the bottom of the trousers a bit. It’s a very comfy look and I’d be happy to wear it for a stroll around the supermarket or for a day working at home.

Another casual way to style plus size trousers
I recently bought myself a denim jacket (Size 20), again from Tu at Sainsbury’s and was told by my 30 year old daughter that you weren’t supposed to wear denim jackets with jeans … something about double denim not being fashionable lol. So I wondered if it would go with my Primark trousers. And I think it goes really well 🙂 I added the orange t-shirt I bought from a local charity shop and put on some gold thong sandals (from Primark) to give the look a summer feel. I love this look! It feels very casual and will be great to wear on my staycation holiday to Tenby in Wales later this year. The outfit also looks good without the jacket if it gets too hot!

A more dressy look
This is probably my favourite top I’ve bought this year. From Yours Clothing, it’s a Size 18 and it’s a shirred peplum top in grey (no longer in stock in this colour). It’s so comfortable to wear and I feel it really suits my plus size figure (even the hubby liked it). I added a pair of Cotton Trader sandals (from ebay), which incidentally are the most comfortable sandals I’ve ever worn. I’d be very happy to wear this outfit for a day out shopping or to the pub with friends. I think I could also pop the denim jacket on with this if it was a bit chilly out.

4th way to style plus size trousers
Another top from Tu at Sainsbury’s was my choice for a dressy look with my Primark plus size trousers. I just love the batwing sleeves on this top and the detail around the neckline is very pretty. It’s another top that’s really comfortable to wear and has a lovely summery feel to it. I popped on some nude ankle strap sandals (from Primark) to complete this outfit. I think it would look great for date-night or for a warm summer’s night in Crete (ahhh holidays how I miss you).

So the moral of the story is don’t be scared of wearing lighter colour trousers as a plus size woman. I felt very comfortable wearing each of these looks and will certainly be looking at lighter colours when I’m clothes shopping in future.
