I always find that if I get dressed on a morning, as though I was going out to work, it makes me feel so much more motivated. But I still want to feel comfortable so don’t particularly want to wear anything that is too fussy. As a plus size woman myself (UK size 18/20) I love tunic tops and have quite a few in my wardrobe. They can be so versatile. Wear them with a pair of leggings for comfort or dress them up with some smart trousers or a skirt for going out. These loose button up tunic tops from Kissmoda on Amazon are really pretty. They come in sizes right up to 20 and there are 35 different colours/prints with short sleeve and long sleeve options. I have the navy floral one and a green one and they are so easy to wear. They also wash well and don’t need an iron. And I love the four buttons to the neckline. They are fairly true to size and do have a little stretch in them. At £20.99 I think they are well worth it.

While browsing the Kissmoda range I also came across their casual side twist tunic tops which also look really good. I think the side twist gives a little nod to the trend of tucking a little bit of the front of your top into your trousers. Not something I do myself as I feel it would irrate me but the built in twist that looks like a tuck would be much easier. This range also goes up to a UK Size 20 and comes in 27 colours/prints. Prices range from £9.99 to £20.39.

Comfortable Work Trousers

If you’re a plus size woman I bet you’ll shaking your head at my first suggestion. I was dubious about jeggings too before I tried them but they’re actually really comfortable and make me look slimmer. Jeggings are a cross between jeans and leggings (in case you didn’t know). These high waisted jeggings from Marks and Spencer have an elasticated waist and added stretch (which is always a good thing if you’re sitting at a desk all day). At £15 per pair they come in 14 different colours with lengths of short, regular and long. And they go up to a UK size 24. I love the fact they have so many different colours – it’s so boring just wearing black all the time.

If you really can’t get your head around jeggings then why not try a pair of casual ribbed wide leg trousers. This pair from H&M have an elasticated waist and come in four colours: black, grey and beige. They’re very affordable at £12.99 and look like they’d be a great addition to your work from home outfit essentials. And they would look fab with one of the Kissmoda tunic tops.

Work from home outfit essential – The cardigan

The weather in the UK is really unpredictable. One minute you’re hot and the next it’s freezing cold. So it’s a good idea to have a cardigan handy. And this long sleeve soft touch cardigan from Evans is definitely a lovely edition to your home office essentials. It comes in three beautiful pastel colours: blue, grey and pink. And goes up to UK Size 26/28. It’s buttonless open style makes it really easy to wear. If you’re going for short sleeve tunic tops then a cardigan is a great buy and at £26 it’s looks good value for money. I much prefer a cardigan to a jumper because you can pop it on and off so easily. Which is a big help as an older woman suffering from hot flushes!

Comfy work from home dress

Not everyone is comfortable in trousers so I thought I’d throw in a dress that I think looks great AND is really comfortable. This tie dye drape pocket dress is £26.99 from Yours Clothing. It comes in six colours (only two have the tie-dye print) and goes up to UK Size 38/40. I have both the burgundy and the grey and I’d recommend you go down a size as they’re quite roomy. It’s a tunic type dress so there is no elasticated waist to get in the way, making it really easy to wear. Plus I love the deep front pockets and the 3/4 sleeves (which are my favourite type of sleeve). The dress looks good with black leggings or a pair of plus size tights for curvy women.

Footwear

Comfortable slipper option

If you’re anything like me then you don’t want to be wearing shoes in the house. Slippers are so much more comfy and a definite staple of your work from home outfit essentials. It’s a good idea to have a couple of pairs of slippers. My feet are either freezing cold or too hot. So my first option is the comfy bootie slipper. You can pick these up practically everywhere. I’ve seen them in my local supermarket and my current pair are from Home Bargains. If you prefer to shop online then these Dunlop women’s bootie slippers come in four colours and in UK shoe size 3 up to 7. They look really cosy and are priced from £12.99 to £17.99.

For those warmer days ahead (yes they are coming) how about a pair of these women’s fluffy toe slider slippers. They only come in two colours (grey & beige) but either would still look good with your jeggings and tunic tops. The slippers are priced at £15.99 and have a non-slip and waterproof rubber sole. And they go up to a UK adult shoe size of 11. The open toe style might even motivate you to paint your toenails.

Add a bag to your outfit essentials

Yes I know you’re not going to carry a handbag around the house with you. But you may need to pop out to the post office or the bank in the middle of your working day. So why not transfer all your ‘popping out to the shop’ essentials in your ‘working from home’ bag. Things like your purse, phone, keys, sunglasses etc. Keep it by your desk so you’re ready to go on the spur of the moment. I love this vegan faux suede shoulder bag. It’s only £12.99 and comes in khaki, tan or brown. It looks pretty roomy so you can always pop a notepad or your post in there.

Or if you prefer something smaller then this vegan cross body shoulder bag looks really cute. It’s ideal for carrying just the essentials and the price is only £15.99. It also comes in six colours and has a metal press anti-theft buckle. Actually this would also come in really handy for when we can go on holiday again!

Try before you buy at Amazon

When you’re shopping online you have to pay for your items before they are sent out to you. You can always return things if they don’t fit or they’re not what you expected and then get a refund. But sometimes you might want to order several items at once and maybe can’t afford them all. If you’re shopping for clothes on Amazon you can use their Prime Wardrobe feature. This allows you to choose up to 6 items which are delivered to your doorstep. You don’t pay anything up front. Then use the 7 day try-on period to see which things suit you best.

Once you’ve decided what you want to keep, login to your orders tab on Amazon and let them know which ones you’re returning. Then use the prepaid return label and resealable bag to send them back. Remember you need to drop off your returns with the courier before the 7 days are up. Once Amazon receives the returns you’ll pay for the items you’ve kept. The Prime Wardrobe feature is available on women’s, men’s, kids’ and baby clothing and shoes. Not all items in these categories are eligible so check each one before you add it to your basket. But I think this is a fab idea.

So those are my picks for what are really ‘capsule’ work from home outfit essentials. You don’t want to have tons of outfits and you don’t want to spend a fortune either. But as I said earlier it feels so good to actually get those tatty jogging pants and stained baggy t-shirts off and get into something smart.
