Yes you heard me right, apparently women over 50 have better sex than younger women. According to The Telegraph a new sex survey reveals that women aged 55-64 are the most sexually contented and women aged 24-35 are the least satisfied. Hmmmm … you know I think they might be right!
Thinking back to when I was in my twenties I had two small children. I’d forgotten what that was like until my grandson came along. You just don’t get any time to do anything, let alone have good sex. Kids are hard work, they constantly need your attention – day and night. My son was a terrible sleeper, even when he got a bit older he hated sleeping in his own room. He’d drag his quilt through to our bedroom and ask if he could sleep on our floor, which of course meant he ended up in our bed. Bit of a passion killer don’t you think?
And of course when the kids are older you still can’t let yourself go and swing from lampshades in case they hear you (I don’t really swing from lampshades … I don’t think they’d take the strain). So that meant the only time you got to have some ‘really good sex’ was if you got a babysitter and stayed in a hotel for the night. If you’re anything like me that involves having a nice meal and a couple of glasses of wine (or maybe more). We honestly did intend to make the earth move (or at least the headboard), I mean I took sexy lingerie with me and everything. But it usually ended up with us falling asleep exhausted!
So I can agree that if you have kids when you’re 24-35 then women over 50 may be having better sex than you.
And then of course there’s all those television shows and films that make it look like all women are having the most exciting sex possible and if you’re not there’s something wrong with you. Have you seen The Affair or 50 Shades of Grey? Or even Vampire Diaries or True Blood (yes I have a vampire addiction). They always make sex look like a two hour workout. If you’re not trying 10 different positions in one session and having at least 3 orgasms then it probably seems like you’re missing out on something. And honestly, does your makeup still look perfect at the end of it? Do you immediately cuddle up and say romantic things to each other or do you escape to the bathroom asking him ‘do you want a wet wipe’? (apologies to my son and daughter if they’re reading this).
I think women over 50 are just more realistic. We’ve had years to learn that sex isn’t really like the movies. And we’ve also had time to learn what we like, and more importantly to make sure our partner is very clear on what we like … and what we don’t like. I don’t think you always have the confidence to say stuff like that when you’re younger.
At 55 my expectations are more realistic. While there may be problems, for instance, partners seeking treatment at an ED Clinic Central Scottsdale (or a clinic close by) to get them back on track or busy schedules that never seem to align, the positives remain. I’m very happy with a really good ‘sprint’ and the odd ‘marathon’ thrown in now and again. There’s nothing better than a satisfying quickie then putting the TV on, grabbing a bar of chocolate and watching Project Runway together. So if that survey had asked me I would definitely have said at 55 I was very satisfied with my sex life. Maybe they should do the same survey for men and see what results they get – now that would be interesting.
