It’s been quite a while since we had any romantic getaways. Of course me and the hubby have spent a lot of time in each other’s company due to the pandemic. But it’s not quite the same as going away for some real quality time in beautiful surroundings. Wouldn’t it be lovely just to get away for 2 or 3 nights where we don’t have to think about anything else but enjoying each other’s company? Taking some romantic walks along the coast or in the countryside. Relaxing in a hot tub with a glass of bubbly. Watching the stars on a clear night. Or even spending a lazy day in bed just like we did when we were much younger! These 7 fabulous places to stay, featured on the Coolstays website, are in the North East of England or Scotland and are suitable for two people. They’re definitely on my bucket list of romantic getaways for the next couple of years.
Woodland Chase Treehouse
Felton, Northumberland
Offering a touch of luxury, this awesome treehouse boasts spectacular views of farmland and sea. It includes a handcarved double bed with egyptian cotton bed linen, a velvet chesterfield sofa and a welcome hamper that includes chocolates and prosecco. Together with a sunken wood-fired outdoor hot tub situated on the deck suspended among the trees, this treehouse is an ideal romantic getaway.
If you want to explore the area while you’re there then I can really recommend a trip to Alnwick. You’ll find some lovely little shops, the stunning Alnwick Castle and you could also dine out at the Alnwick Garden Treehouse Restaurant.

Whitesand Shiel
Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland
If you want to spend your romantic getaway with awesome views of the River Tweed then this lovely cottage is for you. It’s stylishly decorated with quirky touches and includes an outdoor seating area with BBQ and wood fire pit. Can you picture you and your other half snuggled up on that comfy sofa on the first floor sitting room with a bottle of wine and that beautiful view? Pure bliss. As this cottage is owned by a professional chef you can opt for a homemade meal delivery service or even take a cookery class in her nearby B&B.
A trip into Berwick offers you the chance to take the Tweed & Coast Nature Trail or a boat trip where you’ll sail past several historical sites.

The Retreat
Ingram, Northumberland
This detached cottage is a luxuriously restored stable in an exclusive country hideaway. What really stands out for me at this romantic getaways place is the indoor spa area which features a 5 metre swim-spa pool and jacuzzi. Add to this a super king-size bed and a double-ended bath and it becomes the ideal place to rekindle the romance in your lives.
Surrounded by 400 square miles of untouched National Park, bikes are available for you to go exploring. Pack a romantic picnic and venture out to Linhope Spout, a beautiful 18m waterfall. Then back to The Retreat for a cosy night in that spa area!

Rink Hill
Galashiels, Tweed Valley
Situated in the Tweed Valley this modern hideaway is tucked into the hillside of the Scottish Borders. It’s floor to ceiling windows allow you to really soak in the spectacular views. It also has an outdoor hot-tub (one of my favourite features for romantic getaways) and you get a welcome hamper with local produce to help you get settled in. The bedroom also has floor to ceiling windows so you can enjoy a cosy cuppa in bed in the morning enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
As well as being able to take some romantic walks (or more strenuous hikes), there is also an award-winning restaurant nearby, Firebrick Brasserie, where you can enjoy some modern British cooking and patisserie.

Tower O’Ess
Glen Tanar Estate, Aberdeenshire
An impressive gatehouse that guards the Glen Tanar Estate and is ‘nestled within the bewitching Scots Pine’ is a dream spot for a romantic getaway. This Rapunzel-esque tower boasts a super king bed, double ended bath and an outdoor hot tub. But the piece de resistance has to be the roof terrace with panoramic views of the surrounding woodland. A beautiful spot to enjoy a cocktail and gaze at the stars.
Long romantic walks across 25,000 acres of Caledonian Pine forests could be part of your stay or you could even take part in a Wildlife Photography course which is listed in the Estate’s activities available for visitors.

Stormhouse
Appin, Argyll
This modern holiday home situated in a peaceful and secluded area has some breathtaking views of Castle Stalker and Loch Laich. You need never miss a moment of the view with Stormhouse featuring floor to ceiling windows. This sleek contemporary romantic getaway includes a luxury sunken hydromassage spa hot tub.
All of the accommodations featured includes a kitchen but Appin is really a food lover’s dream. There are several restaurants in the area with delicious-sounding menus including the Castle Stalker View Cafe whose home-made cheddar and herb scones sound like they’re not to be missed.

The Wee Beehive
Strathdon, Cairngorms National Park
As soon as I saw the pictures of this beautiful little wood cabin I was smitten. It’s shabby chic cosy looking interior with it’s bee-themed bedding and cute little tree light really scream romatic getaway to me. As well as a king-size bed it has an en-suite with walk in shower … not something you always get with a wood cabin. It has a private outdoor space with a wood-fired hot tub and a BBQ over a firepit. There’s nothing more romantic than sitting around a firepit, wrapped in a blanket, drinking wine and gazing at the clear night sky.
Strathdon also has six community trail walks so you can get out and enjoy the fresh air and take in the sights and sounds of the Cairngorms. And if you really don’t want to venture out you can always snuggle up in your cosy wood cabin and take advantage of the smart TV that’s set up with Netflix for you.

I think you’ll agree there are some fantastic romantic getaways here. Here are a few tips to make sure it’s quality time:
- Turn off your phones (or at least put them on silent)
- Really talk to each other like you used to … and not about finances or household stuff!
- Cook together … and wash up together
- Go for a walk together, you could even hold hands
- Watch a sunset together
- Give social media a miss for the time you’re away
- Take a book … you don’t have to spend every minute doing things together
- Rekindle your passion … well these venues include some really comfy looking beds and luxurious bedding so it would be a shame not to 🙂
Above all, enjoy.
