Buckt Home Box Review : Subscription Box UK

Do you love a monthly subscription box but are looking for something different? There are tons of beauty boxes out there but I wanted something with activities in it to keep me busy. So I was really interested to find Buckt Home. I’ve been getting it for four months now so thought it was time I did a Buckt Home Box Review. You can find out exactly what it is, what kind of things are in it and how much it costs so you can decide if you’d like to try it yourself.

Update 21/09/22: Unfortunately Buckt Home is no longer available but where possible I have linked the activities to the relevant companies if they are still available. However Buckt Go is available in London, Liverpool & Merseyside, Greater Birmingham and Greater Manchester.

What is the Buckt Home Box?

It’s a monthly UK subscription box that delivers five activities you can do at home with your family or on your own and costs £25 per month. The activities you get include physical craft items, online classes, puzzles, challenges and digital entertainment with a value of up to £60. Buckt originally started as Buckt Go, where you would get five activities to go and do in your own region but obviously due to the pandemic they came up with activities to do in the comfort of your own home. I’ll be very interested to try Buckt Go when we get back to normal.

Who is the Box suitable for?

The Buckt Home Box is created with adults in mind but there are quite a few activities that could be done with children (supervised of course). Especially the crafty things, and some of the online activities. Each activity is suitable for two people to do. That also includes the online activities where most people include another member of their household. So it really can be fun for the whole family.

What’s in the Buckt Home Box?

I’ve had four Buckt Home Boxes and each one has had different activities in them. No month has been the same. Here are a few of the things I’ve received and my thoughts on them.

Craft Items

Cross Stitch Kit: This Halloween pumpkin themed kit included everything you needed to create a cute little embroidery picture. It had the threads, fabric, needle, chart, instructions and the wooden hoop.

Reindeer Mosaic: The kit includes everything to make this lovely little Christmas decoration to hang on your tree.

Wooden Pendulum Clock Kit: This was definitly something for my husband to do. Build your own fully working clock that is an activity suitable for ages 7 and up. All you needed to add was 2 x AA batteries.

Boat Cushion Sewing Kit: This was in the March 2021 box and is a lovely cushion with a spring/nautical feel. This looks fairly easy to do as the fabric is already pre-cut so I’ll be spending an evening making this very soon.

Other craft activities have included a glass painting kit, a decopatch papier mache model, a make your own beauty mask kit and we even had a make your own covid face mask kit!

My Thoughts: Some of the specific holiday activities arrived very close to the day they would be created for. For example the pumpkin cross stich kit and the reindeer mosaic arrived about a week before Halloween and Christmas. So I haven’t done either of these activities yet. It’s worth noting that Buckt have now changed how they send things out so you get the activities much earlier in the month, giving you plenty time to complete activites for relevant holidays where necessary.

All of the items have good quality materials and come very well packed. If you love doing craft projects but don’t particularly like displaying the items you make, then they would all make lovely little gifts. In the boxes I’ve received there have been on average three craft activities, so if you’re not a crafty person the Buckt Home Box may not be for you.

Online Classes

The online classes were definitely the reason I subscribed to the Buckt Home Box. While we’ve been stuck in the house I’ve been struggling for things to keep me occupied on an evening and weekend. So this sounded very interesting. All classes are an hour long and you get several dates and times to choose from. They are live classes and are interactive. You can choose to have your video camera and microphone turned on or switched off. Here’s what classes I’ve participated in so far.

Mandarin Class: As I said these are live lessons, and this one involved learning to say and read some basic Mandarin words. The teacher would tell you how to pronounce each word then get class members to repeat them back to her. We then moved onto speaking whole sentences in Mandarin. The class included a short five minute break where we got to watch how to brew Chinese tea. Then it was back into the class where we were encouraged to sing a song in Mandarin.

I did enjoy this class but would have preferred not to have the sing song part! It felt a bit uncomfortable as I really can’t sing. It gave me a good taster of what it would be like to learn the Mandarin language, which is quite fascinating.

Zumba Class: A pre-recorded session that I accessed with an online link. I have done Zumba before in a face to face session and really enjoyed it. I found this particular class a lot of fun and was much easier to follow than the face to face sessions I’ve attended. The routines and the music were good. I felt it was a good workout and definitely some thing I would do again.

Drawing Class: Probably my favourite online class from Buckt Home Box. There were quite a few people on this class so it did seem a popular activity. You started the class by drawing a grid of squares. Then a picture was revealed on screen, square by square. So you were drawing the subject matter one piece at a time, which I found made it quite simple. I have to state I haven’t drawn anything since I was at school so this was a new experience for me. At the end of the class everyone turned on their webcams to show their efforts. Mine was definitely not one of the best but I did think I’d had a really good go at it.

I loved this drawing class and would be happy to take part in another drawing class, maybe with a different subject to draw. If you can’t tell what it is, it’s a jug of grapes with a pear beside it lol.

I’ve also taken part in an online magic workshop, which was a lot of fun and I learned three card tricks. This class had quite a few families attending as it was something kids could really get involved in. The instructor was excellent. And coming up this week I have an online Latin dance class and a Soul Writing class.

My Thoughts: For me the online classes are definitely the best part of the subscription. You get a great taster of something you may want to take a longer course in. The session is just long enough to wet your appetite. Buckt give you details of the instructors/teachers so you can follow up further lessons if you wish. As I mentioned earlier, two people can take part in these classes so it’s a great opportunity for you and your partner to do something together.

Digital Entertainment

Online Treasure Hunt: I liked the concept of this one and it’s not something I’ve ever heard of before. It’s done through a company called Wanderlust and involves solving set clues using Google Earth. You’re given some background information on the country the hunt is set in (ours was Singapore) and then you use the clues and activities to explore. Each treasure hunt is supposed to take 60 to 90 minutes but if you’ve never used Google Earth before (like me), it will probably take you longer.

This activity came with a two month subscription to Wanderlust, giving you the opportunity to try a few of their treasure hunts.

Harry Potter’s Virtual Scotland Trail: This involved an online tour guide showing you pictures of various places J K Rowling drew inspiration from as she wrote the books. It was a very interactive session where the guide got audience participants involved.

I also have An Introduction to Wine pre-recorded class to look forward to. Included with this are 3 x 187ml bottles of wine (red, white & rose). Needless to say I’m looking forward to this one.

My Thoughts: I’m enjoying the online treasure hunt activity, although haven’t completed it yet. As I’m new to Google Earth I found it a little difficult to manouevre around it at first and some of the clues aren’t explained very well. But overall I think it’s a good activity and worth a look.

The Harry Potter tour was aimed more at children I felt. There were a lot of children participating in this one and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. I stopped watching this one about 20 minutes into it. However if you have children that are Harry Potter fans they will probably love it.

Puzzles & Games

Chocolate Trivial Pursuit: This came in the Christmas Buckt Home Box. It included question cards and individually wrapped pieces of chocolate, which you won if you got the question right.

My Thoughts: The questions were fun but unfortunately we didn’t like the chocolate that was included.

Spin Point Table Top Game: A physical game that includes cards and a spinner. The idea is to turn over a category card to see what you’re searching for. e.g. things with four legs. Then you spin the timer and turn over cards trying to find things with four legs before the spinner stops.

My Thoughts: The game is for 3-6 players, aged 8 and over. So a great game for the whole family. As there is just me and the hubby in our household I was wondering how we would play it, but apparently the Buckt Team have played this in the office and say it works perfectly well with two players.

Clever Fox Wooden Puzzle: this is a wooden puzzle cube that you take apart and then put back together

My Thoughts: I’m not very good at these kinds of puzzles and this one was no exception. I could not get it apart, didn’t even have a clue where to start. So I read the instructions that came with it … I still couldn’t get it apart! My daughter-in-law also got this Buckt Home Box and she managed to get the cube apart but hadn’t managed to put it back together (at the time I’m writing this). So this type of puzzle may excite you if you’re into that kind of thing lol, but definitely not for me.

All things considered, I do feel the Buckt Home Box is worth the £25 per month. There are a good range of activities to try out and something to suit most people. You can sign up to a monthly or bi-monthly subscription box and can also put it on pause when you need to. You can also cancel at any time. Buckt have a dedicated app where you can manage your account which makes things easier. Although you are sent all the physical activities in the post, roughly around 6th or 7th of the month, you need to sign up for each of the online activities individually. This means if you don’t fancy one of the classes you don’t have to sign up for it. However as you’re paying for it, you might as well try it..

Buckt have also recently added a Marketplace section to their app, where you can choose to buy individual activities, which will be great for gift ideas or just as a one-off activity if you’ve put your subscription on pause.
