Best Face Exfoliator for Mature Skin

As a woman in her fifties, taking care of my skin is very important to me. Especially my face. I’ve wanted to add a face exfoliator to my skincare routine for a while but hadn’t found the right one. What’s in it?

Upcircle says this product is suitable for dry, dehydrated skin. As I get older (and certainly after menopause), my skin has certainly become more dry. It’s usually crying out for moisturiser as soon as I step out of the shower. So this face scrub sounded good straight away.

The packaging states the face scrub is made with repurposed coffee grounds. I did smile a bit when I saw this as I hadn’t heard of using coffee grounds in a skincare product. But apparently coffee grounds are a great facial exfoliator. And Upcircle get their’s from ‘artisan coffee shops’ in London. The product also contains rosehip, sweet orange and lemon verbena essential oils. The aroma when I took the cap off the tube was gorgeous.

How to use it

What makes this product the best face exfoliator for mature skin is that it does what it says on the tin (or tube).

Before using the face scrub you need to shake the tube quite vigorously. I didn’t do this the first time (even though I’d read that you should). And the result was the scrub was very liquid. After putting the cap back on and giving it a good shake the results were better. The scrub comes out like a thick paste. It does actually look like coffee grounds too.

I use about 2cms of the scrub (not sure which other way to describe the amount). Then start rubbing it onto my damp face. I also go under my chin and a little way down my neck. This face scrub smells absolutely gorgeous. The combination of coffee with orange and lemon makes it feel like you’re having a cup of coffee and a glass of breakfast juice in the shower! The instructions say to apply, leave for a few moments and then pat dry. I probably leave it for a minute or so as I really do love the smell.

Face Scrub for Glowing Skin

I’ve used other face scrubs that as soon as you wash it off, your skin feels no different. The Upcircle Coffee Face Scrub immediately makes your skin feel clean, soft and smooth and there is a definite glow to my face. The scrub itself is a good exfoliator. It has a lot of ‘scrubbiness’ to it. I’m not sure of the word to describe the extent of the exfoliating property so ‘scrubbiness’ is the best word I can come up with! You don’t need to rub very hard to get it to do it’s job.

There have been occasions when this face exfoliator has helped a skin irritation I’ve had. There’s been a couple of times in the last month when my face has felt a bit ‘spotty’. Nothing major, it just felt like there were a few little bumps on my forehead. I honestly believe the coffee scrub helped clear them up.

Note: As I don’t have acne I really couldn’t confirm whether this product would be of use for that.

Coffee Face Scrub Benefits

The Upcircle website also says the face scrub is a good toner for the skin. I’m never sure what a toner is supposed to do so I looked it up.

Apparently it prepares the skin for moisturiser by getting rid of the last traces of dirt and maintains the balance of the skin’s natural oils. It also smooths and improves skin tone.

After being on lockdown for the last few weeks, and so being stuck in the house with the central heating on, my skin has been looking a bit worse for wear. I can’t say 100% that it’s this face scrub that has improved the condition of my skin, but it’s definitely looking clearer and smoother. That’s after using it twice a week for the last two months.
