Aldi Too Legit Mascara : Is It Good On Older Thinning Lashes?

Have you noticed that your eyelashes are thinning out as you get older? I certainly have! It’s become a bit of a treasure hunt to find a mascara that actually makes my lashes look longer and thicker, and doesn’t sting my eyes. I’ve tried quite a few over the years so when I spotted the Aldi Too Legit Mascara from Lacura recently I didn’t hold out a lot of hope. I mean it’s only £5.99, how good can it really be? I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now so I wanted to share my thoughts with you.

Aldi Too Legit Mascara from Lacura

Lacura’s Description

Mascara brands always seem to make fantastic claims about their products and the Aldi Too Legit Mascara box is no different. They claim this waterproof mascara does the following:

  • dramatically lengthens lashes for a fuller look
  • builds volume while separating lashes
  • lifts lashes for a wide eyed look
  • no clumps
  • no smudges
  • no flakes
  • waterproof, sweat proof, smudge proof and play proof

A rich black long-wearing formula that creates voluminous, longer looking lashes.

Big promises I thought!

The Packaging

The Aldi Too Legit Mascara comes packaged in a cardboard box. On the box are it’s claims and directions for use. I actually liked this feature. The print was something I could read without my glasses (a plus point when you’re a bit short-sighted). And I’ve never actually seen a ‘directions for use’ on a mascara before. But then they don’t usually come in a box do they? A definite thumbs up from me.

The Mascara Tube & Wand

The second plus point for this mascara (and Aldi makeup in general) is that it is cruelty free. I always try to buy cruelty free makeup products when I can.

The mascara tube is a nice shiny metallic blue colour. It’s easy to hold and easy to open.

I was a bit dubious about the wand at first. The end of it looks a bit like a worn-out toothbrush. But this was definitely a great feature. The shape of the wand makes it very easy to separate and coat individual lashes, helping to create the volume and lengthening the Aldi Too Legit Mascara promises.

Performance

Does it do what it says on the box? Pretty much yes!

Aldi Too Legit Mascara Before & After Photos

Like I said, my eyelashes are quite thin and short. A couple of coats of this mascara definitely made them look longer and thicker. I wouldn’t say it ‘dramatically’ lengthened them, but I certainly noticed a difference.

And there was no clumping. The mascara wand comes out with just enough mascara that you don’t have to fiddle around scraping the thick off on the top of the tube.

As for the waterproof factor, my eyes do water in the corners quite regularly and I haven’t noticed any running of the mascara at all. My face can also quite quite sweaty (even post-menopause I’m still suffering from hot flushes) and the mascara has stayed put.

Removing the mascara

Removing your mascara at night can sometimes prove tricky. How many times have you made several attempts but you’re still left with black smudges? I use The Body Shop’s Sumptuous Cleansing Butter to take my makeup off and I found that the Aldi Too Legit Mascara came off completely without any problems. And it didn’t sting my eyes at all.

My overall opinion

I’m definitely impressed with this mascara. I can honestly say it’s the best mascara for older thinning lashes I’ve used to date and I highly recommend you try it for yourself. My only negative point is that Aldi usually sell out of their makeup and beauty products fairly quickly. So if you find you like it, then head back to the shop quickly and buy a couple more so you never run out!
